“Solace”

A poem by Frank Letras

23rd July 2010

If I could find but one word

That would put your mind at ease,

I wouldn’t hesitate to use it,

You wouldn’t have to say please.

If could find a way to say;

I know exactly how you feel’

I would stand in the pews and pray,

I wouldn’t even have to kneel.

Life can be cruel sometimes,

And leave us smothered in sorrow,

Permit me to use an old cliché,

‘You know there’s always tomorrow’.

When things seem at their worst,

The clouds promise nothing but rain,

Silver linings invariably follow,

In time, you will laugh again.

Those of us in adulthood,

Each have sad tales of their own,

Tragedy is as much a part of life,

As happiness, if truth be known.

I hope you take some solace,

From this poem I wrote,

But if not, I’m sure you will

From this wonderful quote…

"For when the One Great Scorer comes To write against your name, He marks - not that you won or lost - But how you played the game." - -- Grantland Rice
