Long ago and far away

In a kingdom to the west

Lived a handsome Moorish king

Who endeavoured to do his best.

He ruled a province strange to him

Though this he did not choose

To rule the land of the Al-garve

In the west of Al-Andaluz.

He was a fair and wise ruler

Ensuring his land was free of strife

The only thing missing said the courtiers

Was the presence of a wife.

Posso passar um momentinho,

Prá minha história contar,

Tento enche-la de humor,

Europa League and all that!

Nobody was more impressed than I over the 5-0 thrashing Benfica gave Everton in last week's Europa League encounter in Lisbon. Everton are traditionally tough opponents and can prove very hard to beat indeed. I know one result doesn't prove anything but I am an eternal optimist, after all. Let's have a lot more of those and see the eagles back where they rightfully belong, in Europe's premier competition, the Champions League.

Feijoada

The basic ingredients of Portuguese feijoada are beans and fresh pork or beef meat. In northwest Portugal (chiefly Minho and Douro Litoral) it is usually made with white beans; in the northeast (Trás-os-Montes) it is generally prepared with red (kidney) beans, and includes other vegetables such as tomatoes, carrots and cabbage. The stew is best prepared over low heat in a thick clay pot.

Portuguese feijoada is usually served with rice and assorted sausages such as chouriço de carne, morcel...
